I've searched and searched on this subject and the more I read, the more opinions I find and it always ends up in a debate about using a junction block, the horn relay, or connecting things straight to the alternator.
My situation: I've bought a Vintage Air kit with the Front Runner system and the Front Runner comes with a one-wire alternator. How do I connect it? Do I just unplug and don't use the two-wire plug my alternator has now? Will that disable the volt-meter battery gauge?
Just remember 1 wire alt are self exciting! So that means you have to rev the engine to get the alt working. Usually a rev about 2000 rpm is enough to get it on. As far as the wiring, I'm pretty sure you can attach the volt meter wire on the same post as the main battery wire post. Summit racing tech line should be able to give you the info you need.
The one wire alts work great but always take that second to rev it. I was idling for a long time after start up and shut my car down and the battery was dead when I came back. Of coarse the car was sitting a long time and the battery was down from the get go.
