17/9.5 wheel clearances tight........
My two new wheels came in today and I thought I would show you some tight spots.
The rear spring bolt is less than 3/16in,from the wheel with a 5in. backspace.Tight....
The break bracket does have th be moved unless maybe you used a 1/2in. spacer.I may end up having to use a spacer to gain some clearance for tire sidewall, it also looks like my exaust may interfere with the tire.
If I dont use a spacer the wheel and fender are just about flush.
And here is a pic of the wheel.I think on the front I'm going to 8inchers the Kumho 275/40/17 tires have 10in. tread width and I think it will create allot of stress for steering componints.
We have a 1978 corvette race car that has used 17x11.5 wheels produced by complete custom wheels at the road courses and autocrosses. The car has full stock body work, and the wheels only stick out about 1/4 inch at the most. We had to modify the front bodywork a bit (the car has the three piece optional 1978 front spoiler) to allow for a tighter turning radius. We run 17/25.5/12 Goodyear slicks or 315/35/17 Kuhmo's. The car turns awesome, looks cool, and goes great. It also has offset trailing arms in the back and the bump-steer block up front. We use a 1/4 inch spacer in front, and none in back (the wheels have a 5 1/2 inch back space. When we had stock trailing arms we had to eliminate the parking brake cable and bracket. The tolerances are close.
The reason for the post is not to say "hey we've got big wheels" but to help others mount the right wheels and tires. Hope it helps, and good luck!

305s and 315s  man I just cant see it on a stock car but they gotta be cool. Thanks for sharing. 285s are as much as I would want to pay for a tire. :D
i was just reading on a different thread, VBP posted that they have shorter springs for just such things. you may want to get with them and see if they can help. personally, i would be very concerned with that little clearance if it were my car.
Looks close! Thinking of doing the same thing, but now you've got me nervous about the "fit". Dying to see the finished product so I can decide which way to go!
Well I got tires put on the rims and bought a 1/4in. spacer to see if that would let me clear the E-break mount, it's not enough so it will have to be moved. But the car looks prity wild with these new wheels. :D
