Understand the sending unit can be located on driver side of block or....
near distributor on top of engine...either location OK??? one better than another??
i don't see a problem with either myself. i have sending units located in either location and apparently no adverse affects from it. mine is located on the top of the block next to the distributor. personally i like that location since i believe that reading shows the pressure after the crank feed. i don't know if this is really true but it makes me feel better believing there is really more oil on the crank than what i see on the gauge.
Joe74,
Both locations were used on Corvettes. The old mechical guages were hooked into the top of the block behind the distributor. Your 74 originally had the sending unit connected ontop of the oil filter. There is also a port in the front of the engine. I have used the two locations you have mentioned and same reading.
