ZZ4 swap update. It's almost done!
After fighting hard to get the engine aligned with the motor mounts and the transmission we found the torque converter wouldn't bolt to the flexplate. Wrong size. I wasn't about to pull the engine again so I found a reputable mechanic and had it flatbedded to him.
Thing that impresses me about this guy is he cares about doing it right.
While under the car he found a couple interesting things. The arm that the driver's side motor mount attaches to is indeed pushed towards the rear of the car by about 1/2 of an inch. What makes this puzzling is the fact that there is no damage on the rest of the frame. The frame has been re-welded up by the driver's front suspension but the frame shows no signs of being attached to a frame pulling machine. Weird thing is all the body panels line up, doors are fine, windshield and rear window are fine. All weird with a capital WEE.
That 1/2" misalignment up in the engine compartment pushes the driveshaft a couple inches from where it should be. The added stress broke the transmission mount and the driveshaft was rubbing on the underside of the car.
On top of this the Edelbrock aluminum water pump appeared to be the wrong one. It had no place to hang the power steering pump from like my old pump. On closer inspection I found that my old pump was in fact a long style pump. Of course all the pulleys are matched for the long pump. I need to track down pictures of fan shrouds as I don't believe my setup is correct there either. My fan sits behind the shroud rather than inside it.
Oh yeah, the headers were warped too.
Yesterday I called the mechanic and he gave me the good news. Everything is in and he has even started it. The new headers need to be mated to the rest of the exhaust system so he is going to drive it off to an exhaust shop to get it finished off. That's it. I need to put the hood back on but that's all! By this weekend, if anybody sees a black C3 around western PA with the driver looking something like :D you know it's me.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has helped. I wouldn't have survived this car without you folks.
John
