Why would putting a Diesel in a C3 be anymore outlandish than dropping in an LS motor?
A nice handling C3 with a 500 mile fill-up range does have it's appeal.
I doubt itd fit, they are a plumbing nightmare on the exhaust side. Besides, they are JUNK, have one in the shop right now getting a new high pressure turbo, on its second engine and has been to the ford dealer countless times for various problems, less than 200k miles. That being said, I suppose if you removed the EGR and EGR coolers and went to some kind of remote turbo set-up you might be able to make it fit.
This video is of a 6.5liter GM diesel which is designed to be used with a GM frame. Installation would be much easier. Plus it is a little smaller in size compared to the 6.4 ford engine with all its extra emissions crap
I sure wouldn't want to here that **** clacking for 2 miles let alone 500.
To each his own-
It's just funny though when people complain about the 'clatter' yet have 500 watt stereos cranked and side pipes or exhaust so loud you can't even talk to the person next to you... That's all fine but OMG the CLATTER!!
The clatter is only at idle, and most newer generation Diesels are no louder than a gas engine with a mechanical cam (but that 'clatter' is cool I guess?). At speed you really can't hear it over the wind noise. I've had Diesel cars most of my life and noise was never a concern.
Just sayin'
wouldn't have any vehicle with one but then that is just me, they rattle (some more than others), stink (even the new pickups), cost more to run and fix when you do the math and just plain don't make sense except for the torque......again to each their own to do as they please. some laugh at corvettes, lambo, etc. and some at prius so......
Ya, I'd be proud to have a big freaking cloud of black smoke the size of a house come out of my vette every time I hit the gas hard. Not to mention the rattle and stink. I'll pass.
You betcha, a true American sports car with a red line of 3000rpm's and a cloud of black soot out the exhaust. Gonna put stacks on 'er?
If it's the rattle and stink you're after, back the rockers off a bit and lay a dead cat on your exhaust manifolds. Everywhere you go, that diesel stink will follow.
It's kinda like screwing your drunk sister - just because you can doesn't mean you should...
