high RPM
I added fuel at the 1000 rpm bins and it would drop and stay at 1000.
You need 3 things to reach a certain rpm : air, fuel and spark. Any variation in these can bring a variation of rpm.
I may not have my story 100% accurate, but something changed at Melling ownership that resulted in a change in the casting. There is a critical point at the base of the pump where it connects to the engine that got thinner.
My engine builder noticed a piece of paper that started showing up with all his Melling oil pumps that said something like "Not intended for use in a high vibration environment".
In the end, he had one fail on him at that critical point. Broke in half.
He has been using Schumann pumps ever since. No warnings, no failures. And they are beefed up at that same point he had issues/concerns with.
Just thought I'd share.
