which struts?
My friends and I like to do the canyons in the Santa Monica Mountains from Santa Monica to Camarillo Airport and have lunch at Way Point Cafe then PCH (US1) home. The bonus is the Way Point Cafe have a special on Wednesdays. Tri-tip sandwich which is well worth the trip.
Well back to the point the car handled amazingly. What stood out for me is the car rode better and still handled like it never has before. I did not think that it was possible. It know sounds like a contradiction " better ride and handles way better"???
I do not want to bash anyone, but in my opinion the KYB's I just pulled off rode harsh and did not handle nearly as well.

Frank,
Welcome to the "I have seen the light on C3 shocks" club and now understand why Bilsteins (and a very select few other shocks) cost more BUT Bilsteins (including the Sports, not just the heavy duty) will make your C3 ride AND handle BETTER than junk mass market shocks like Monroe, Gabriel, KYB, etc. I love when I read about someone who wants to replace their shocks but does not want Bilsteins since they are afraid the car will ride too hard.
I have never had a satisfactory experience with mass market shocks like KYB (not just them BTW) either on my C3 or any of my other cars with one exception (in all fairness)…2001 Pontiac Grand Prix DD (currently 170,000 miles original engine/tranny) which had Acdelco Struts-new to 80,000 miles), then KYB GR-2's (80-130K miles) which were not as good as OEM struts (being kind here), and then I found the answer…really wanted Bilsteins but at $900 for the car, had to let that idea go…After some research, settled on Monroe (yes, i know) 2001 Police Struts/Springs for the Impala (W body GM car-exact suspension as the GP). Holy smokes…rides great, handles great, no more float, bottoming out, sagging rear end…handles, Steers, and takes bumps like a champ or well like a police car…love it. Seems that mass market Specialty shocks like the Monroe Police Struts/springs and the KYB AGX are pretty good but it has to be the specialty shock/Struts. Generally speaking, I have found very good shocks/struts stiffen the ride somewhat (slightly) BUT improve the overall handling/steering dramatically. If you want a soft cushy ride, probs should look for a 70's cadillac….
