CALLING ELECTRICAL EXPERTS!!! Electrical problems with detent kickdown
Driving between 40 and 60mph I do not get a downshift to 2nd gear. I checked the downshift switch by the accel. and it is adjusted properly, and checks out with a continuity test. The problem is when I disconnect the connector at the transmission and run a continuity check to either side of the switch at the accel. I get a closed circuit on both sides of the connectors. What's up with this??? Shouldn't there be an open circuit on the side comming from the power source??

Yep. Sounds like the switch is shorted from what you described. The kickdown switch is a N.O. switch. It might be adjusted to make when the acc. hits it, but it may already be closed from gunk? The circuit is to put +12 on the kickdown solenoid. Ground is already there via the trans case.
Make sure you kickdown solenoid in the trans is ok. Run +12 to the lead and you should hear it click.

I suppose the easy way is to just listen for the click with ignition switch on and flooring the gas, but engine still.....
if you have 12 volts on the pink wire, it should apply 12 volts to the green wire when pedal is floored...and that should of course go to the tranny...
