I want to put a higher than stock capacity oil pan in the 75. It's a small block Little M block. Has anyone had issues with any particular brand oil pan, with regard to clearance? Thanks
First, measure the clearance between the front of your pan and the steering linkage - need to check on the ground and turning the wheels fully left to right. Then search for a pan that meets those measurements. All cars are different! I have a '72 and finally found a Milodan pan that provided an extra quart of oil and has allowable clearance for the steering (I don't remember the part number but I believe it is a pan that be used for track racing).
Many things can affect clearance - motor mounts, etc, but you can find a suitable pan. I went to a Summit store and measured several pans till I found the right fit.
Good luck
I would just reuse your current pan if you can and just use the 1 qt truck oil filter (versus the 1/2 quart stock filter) and call it a day if you can like I do-save your money. I use the L-82 oil pan with the truck filter-5.5 total capacity. There is very little if at all difference between 5.5 Qts and 6 Qts…..
I don't have the original engine or the pan from the 75. I have several sbc pans laying around here but I don't know the application for them. Probably interchangeable but if I'm going to put all this aftermarket stuff in this one, I may as well buy a better pan. Just deep won't get it because of ground clearance.
I've got an aluminum sbc pan, but I don't trust a ground contact and a hole created. It still is normal capacity.
I was thinking a Milodan of some type like JimT was suggesting. A few other mods probably won't have an effect on the choice. Borgenson close ratio and Hydroboost.
Thanks for the suggestions I'll go with the truck filter regardless of the pan I find.
