Although I haven't confirmed it yet (been busy just getting it all together and running), it appears that this '74 coupe I have has a Powerglide behind its pretty hot 350 engine (that's the way I bought it). The initial drive I took it on recently indicated only two forward selections on the shifter - seemed to be just "low" and "drive." Low appeared to be a normal 1st gear, while drive seemed to be "high" enough that I didn't feel it needed to shift anymore.
My question is, do some guys go this route? If so, why? I don't know specifically what's inside the 350 . . . other than a LOT of pep! So was thinking that someone used that combo for off-the-line speed . . . or 1/4 mile . . . or ??? Anyone have any ideas?
