lower ball joints
I just got all my front suspension rebuild parts. The LCA BJ is a bit of a strange looking duck. It has two "ears' sticking off of the ball "body" at 90 degrees to each other.
The existing does not have these...so, what are they for and how do you orient the BJ in the LCA so they are clocked correctly so as not to interfere with anything else?
Thanks

All 63-82 Corvette lower ball joints have the two ears. If yours don't then we need to know what you are working on.

You haven't taken the old ones off yet have you?
It'll become apparent when you do

original
Sorry, it's a 1976 cpe. P/S.
The LCA BJ are the originals (riveted), no ears.
So what are the eras for? What do they do and how do you clock them?

The rivets go thru the ears. You have to drill out the rivets, remove the grease zerk, and the nut. There is no clocking, they only go in one way.

what!
Thanks for the cryptic responses. How would the "ears rivet to the LCA? the are well below the control arm when installed and lye in the wrong plane. They are vertical not horizontal.
Now I'm really confused. My AIM has no info on control arm details.
My Camaro AIM covers everything, by contrast.
Thanks, a pix would be very helpful or a referral to some pictorial information

How many rivets in the arm do you see? Two or three?

Lower Ball Joint. This one is a MOOG. The ears bolt into the lower control arm.

Ok
Well that's the craziest damn thing I ever heard of
Thanks for the help.
PS: from a strength of materials stand point it just seems counter intuitive to place a bolt in sheer. JM2cW

The bolts are not in sheer, mostly anti rotation and flex reduction. The main loading is pushing the ball joint through the a-arm.
