72 vs 81 seats
Quick question, I have a 72 but the previous owner put seats from a 81 vette in my car. They look good but want the correct seats in my car. Are the seat frames the same, meaning can I just get the correct foam and seat covers and mount them on my current seat frames or will I have to track down some correct donor seats to rob the frames from?

unless Im looking at the wrong images of the 81 seats they are quite different from 72, have you seen the 72 seats?

79-82 split back bucket seats do not have frames. They use plastic shells.
You will want to shop for 70-72 steel seat backs and bottoms. You will also need 70-72 seat tracks if you do not have an original set.
