In rebuilding my 68 L 71 Motor, I wanted to use 7/16 Dimple Rods but am finding they don't clear the block when assembled on the Crank. Were only 3/8 connecting rods used in 68 Blocks?
The added strength is worth the effort to make the needed room. I wouldn't be concerned with someone inspecting the inside the engine to see if it's original or not. That wouldn't be any worse than Boring the block on a rebuild. In my opinion.
any issues with making room for the larger bolts? Does is damage the block or cause any originality issues?
thanks,
Steve
You need to grind a very little at the Oil Pan Gasket surface to get it to work. The guys who do the Stroker Motors grind a lot. Here is another way to look at it. If You start cross referencing Block part Numbers I'm sure You will find that the same Block You have came with both 3/8" and 7/16" Rod Bolt Rods. So how do You think the factory did it ? They ground it if it was needed.

Thanks everyone, I had the shop assemble using the 7/16" with very minimal modification. Thanks again for the insight.
