I need a replacement Carb for my 1972 LT1. Did some research, some sites say I have GM P/N 3999263 Holley #6239 780cfm 4150 series, another says GM P/N 3986196 Holley #R4555A. Any one have a recommendation as to what model Holley to replace it with and where to purchase it from.

Thanks,

Your 72 LT-1 had a List# 6239 Holley from Chevy, nothing wrong with this carburetor, If you still have the original, it is best to rebuild/restore it. There are several places to send it for proper rebuilding including replating the carb body and hardware. I don't know if it still exists but, I have had work done in the past by " The Holley Custom Shop " a division of Holley carbs, it was always top notch, quality. The stock type replacement carb for an LT-1 is an expensive piece, I have a spare but, it would take $600 to separate this carb from my collection. If your not concerned about originality of fuel mileage a List #4777 Holley 650 double pumper is a great replacment carb with great drivability and performance. Good used 650 holleys run around $200-250.
Thanks for the input. The general consensus I get from knowledgeable car folks is: Keep The Original And Rebuild It. Getting the car sorted out will take some time, but I'm going to enjoy it.
