I am replacing the body mounts in my 1976 Coupe. #2 drivers side is being difficult to remove but it is coming.
When I put the new ones in should I put anything on the bolts and nuts to prevent rusting? Some would say, leave it for the next guy but I hope to have it for a long time so I will be the next guy. Is an Anti-Sieze a bad idea for these bolts?
Anti-seize and new lock washers are best practice, in my opinion. Lack of anti-seize or any lube what so ever is asking for corrosion to repeat why the mounts have to be replaced in the first place. (Well, mounts need replacement due to failed, aged and broken rubber mounts. It's also that the factory bolts are usually so rusted that dremels, cutting disks, torches and drilling out bolts are always a part of replacing body mounts.)
I suppose the lube would prevent some self locking due to rust?
Lastly, due to the flex and elasticity of body mounts, isn't it advisable to re-torque new body mounts after a few months of driving, which would further compress the rubber and loosen up the bolt a wee bit?
Like I say, FWIW.
