I recently purchased from Eckler's and had professionally installed, an Autocustom Sound #630 for my '75.
Anyway, a really weird problem popped up.....I had inserted, in the MP3 USB port of the stereo, a 16gb flash drive with about 60 albums. Listening and enjoying the music UNTIL I turned on the windshield wipers. After about 30 seconds the MP3 player would stop working The FM & AM part of the stereo would work just fine. Just the MP3 player.
Here's where it gets weird...I changed the flash drive with another 16gb memory stick (different company) and the MP3 player has been working perfectly since...EVEN with the windshield wipers going for 2-3 hours (I know, I know...what the hell am I driving the Vette in the rain!?!?!)
I put the other intial memory stick in, started listening to the music, turned on the windshield wipers and the very same thing happened...30 seconds later...BAM...the MP3 player stops working.
HOW CAN THAT BE????? Can a faulty memory stick be the culprit? and WHY???
SWAG.
Possibly EMI from the wiper motor is affecting the one stick.
My basis for this SWAG-- when anything electronic is added to a commercial aircraft, there is a required check to test it against other previously installed electronics to make sure there are not any adverse problems with either the just installed parts or the other systems- like navigation and autopilot. (Even flight control on the newer stuff)

You can try shielding the memory stick/usb cable with aluminum foil and grounding it.

It started acting up again.....Turn on the wipers and the MP3 player stops working. I did notice that when I turned the wipers on to the low speed only and leave it there, the MP3 player works perfectly...it's only when I turn the wipers to the fast speed and then immediately switch it to slow speed, the MP3 quits. Have a strong feeling it's in the switch. According to both Ecklers and ZIP, they are having problems with the C3 wiper switch. So I'm getting another switch and try it...should be here by Monday. Will keep you posted.
i HAD one of those radios a few years ago, threw it in the bin, nothing but trouble..
mp3 would only work for 10min at a time, unplug, turn unit off, wait 5min, then turn on again, repeat.
tried various flash sticks, tried formatting both ways FAT and NTFS.
even converted the music to the same bit rate.
radio would fade in and out of tune occasionally, while car not moving...
not enough volume from mp3 side.
had internal circuit board replaced under warranty, twice, no better.
cost ME money to post back to the USA both times as there were no dealers down here at that time.
gave up and used my phone and a small amp for a while.
Is the ground for your antenna hooked up? And this may sound off the wall but is your exhaust grounded? I have a ground wire from the antenna to the left rear frame and from it to the exhaust. If I remove it my USB drive jumps from track to track and then shuts down! I swear they sent these cars to England to be wired by Lucas the prince of warm beer and the lord darkness.
The Lucas (and Corvette) motto: "Get home before dark."
