Hi, I have a BB with a MSD 6A box a MSD tach drive dist. and a Blaster SS coil. I have had it for about 10 years and it always worked good.
About two years ago I had a misfire at about 5800 rpm I always could go to 6400 and I have a solid flat tappet lifter so its not the lifters floating. I replaced the springs anyway and the plugs just to make sure but there was no change in the rpm. Has anybody had a MSD act like this, should I get a new digital box, could it be the coil, or maybe the distributor.
Its mounted next to the distributor, I have another coil I'm going to try that one and see if it makes any difference.
Do you have it mounted straight up and down or is it sideways?
If it's sideways that could be your problem unless you have a Marine coil (MSD makes one)-they are set in epoxy and can be mounted in any orientation-that's the one I use.
IMO, their products look clunky, junky and more importantly are problematic. Look at their forums, people are always having problems with MSD. I abandoned them when I had problems with their ignition boxes years ago. Have had fellow racers with same issues.
The cabling has to be mounted as per the MSD instructions:
The box should have direct 12 Volt from the battery.
It is important that the wires going from the box to the coil are separated from the pickup wires going from the distributor to the box or interference may occur (read instructions for required distance).
I have the Blaster SS coil mounted upright have had the system for 8 years. About 5 years ago the coil stopped working and they gave me another one. I bought a spare at the time and will probably try that one to see if it corrects the problem weather permitting. What other MSD coils should I try I had the SS fail me once and maybe again.
