Default Heater valve question

I have a 79 that I did away with the air conditioning.

The car still has all the openings for fresh air etc. I put in a block off cover and did away with the condenser under the dash and all the other A/C stuff.

My question is this. The water valve under the hood. The one for a 79 appears to be plastic and not attached to the fender well. It also doesn't appear to have a vacuum attachment.

My 81 has a metal valve that rivits to the fender well and has a vacuum attachment.

Which one should I use with the A/C removed?

I really want to rivet the valve to the fender well as it is a very clean appearance. Also, I want to be able to use the fresh air and recirculating features.

Thanks

early 79 used the plastic one, late 79 used the metal one. The plastic one should have a port on the top for a vacuum line.

In 78/79 they were metal. On my 78 without ac there IS a bracket attached but others who posted about their original 79 say that theirs do not have a bracket. No matter, the original control valve is attached to the hose and just hangs there.(bracket or not) There are no holes on the fender to attach it to and like Melwff said the vacuum line attaches on top.
You can buy the metal one for $55. If you want it to look neat get a metal one with a bracket and attach it to the fender. This is from the 79 AIM.

I removed this from my 78 which I assumed was original:

Thanks for the replies.

I took a plastic one off the car, a 79. It was just dangling on the hose and upon closer exam looks as if the vacuum tit had broken off.

My car does have the boss on the fender well for the metal one. I was able to order one at Advance Auto for $20.00.

I got it yesterday, and it looks identical to the one above, only shiny
