Mickey Thompson
Thanks to Paul (Inferno Vette) who demonstrated that I can look at something for years and not see it! (Bubba?) I know that the cam cover logo is that of Mickey Thompson ( Ithought they just did tyres?). My engine number tells me its a 71 350/270, the distributor was a Mallory with twin points (now replaced with an original 1970 with electronic ignition). The carb is a 600 Holley. The inlet manifold looks original though. The previous owner could only tell me it has big valve heads. Without a strip down its difficult to tell any more except that the original tuning was probably done way back since the original headers went paper thin then blew a couple of years ago. Having said all that, can anybody tell me more about Mickey Thompson engine tuning? :rolleyes: :cool:

You have to go deep into automotive racing history to fully uncover the influence that people like Mickey Thompson had on the sport and industry. Thompson did the tire thing rather late in his affiliation with motorsports. Before then, he was an innovator with a variety of parts like cylinder heads, intakes, fuel systems and such.

Thanks for that, coming from foreign parts I know little of guys like Mickey Thompson. I guess I will have to wait until its stripped down before I find out the extent of the mods. That may be a while since it runs well. :cheers:
