Default Home-made paint booth question?

For those of you who painted your own car at home how did you do your ventilation? The way I have it planned now the ventilation will be circulating on one side of the car only. Is this alright? I was just wondering how some of you did this. Any other points on a home made paint booth will be appreciated! Thanks

Hey Steve, I checked out your web site, you did what I want to do. Everything looks great. My birdcage is in good shape but I wanted to remove it and make it rust proof, was it hard to remove the front and rear clips? How about installing them back on?

Keep in mind, that with many paints, especially urethane type, ventilation and paper masks are not adequate. You must wear a fresh air breathing device, as the fumes will cause brain damage and death!!!

As far as the breathing device, you SHOULD have a supplied air respirator. If you try to paint without one you'll wish you had spent the money on one. I've been there and know this. For a paint booth, if you are painting in a garage it works pretty good to line the thing with plastic, taping the joints in the plastic, then put a box fan in the window, sealed up around the edges, with a furnace filter on the outside to filter incoming air. The exhaust fan is far more important than the incoming air. You MUST have a good exhaust fan. I use a large furnace fan set up to blow out of a door or another window on the other side of the shop.

mpro72vette, the rear clip was not that bad to install because of the body mounts, it can only go in one place, but the front clip was a different story. I had it on and off several times to get every thing lined up. The bird cage lined itself up also.

VettePower, your right about the breathing apperatus. I am going to get a filtered apperatus.

Dalannex, the air I have coming in is not circulating over the car. It is blowing down on one side of it, does this matter? Should I re-route it to circulate over the car?

Thanks guys.
