I was playing around with it last night and had a ball! It's so easy to make a boat load of HP on this thing. But back to reality. I have a '68 427/390 4 speed with 3.08 gears.

I don't understand some of the lingo in the prgram. What I am trying to accomplish is to start with my current configuration, and then make changes to find the best bang for the buck.

I don't know what cam I has, but the intake, heads, pistons, exhaust are all stock.

How do I define the stock heads in the program?
How do I define the stock intake?

The mods I am most likely to do soon are:
Intake and head porting
Add headers
and new cam

My goal is to have a very easy car to drive, but still beat an '03 Cobra- I don't like a small block Ford being faster!

Thanks,
~Jay

I sent a reply by email, but it got sent back-

Thanks Chuck!
That is a big help. Like most people I want a lot of power, but have a thin wallet. I'm hoping to get a significant increase in power without spending a fortune or ruining the drivability. I have to do most of the work myself so I can't just send the engine to a great engine builder. I need to learn how to design my own. Rebuilding the top end is doable in my tiny garage, but pulling the engine is a little out of my league. I'm hoping that Desktop Dyno will help me find the right configuration for my car.

Jay,

I hear you! Keep it simple and pretty close to stock for the best results. Remember, most guys claiming big HP numbers are out to lunch. Clean valves properly ground, somewhat stouter cam (even a hydraulic one), well tuned carb, and free flowing exhaust will work wonders. You are probably stuck with the stock intake manifold as nothing else will fit under the hood, but that is still ok. The other changes mentioned can easily add 100 hp to your rear wheels compared to what you've got now.
