When I roll up the driver window it get almost all the way up and it runs off the end of the gear. I have checked and there are no teeth missing. The window stops about 3 inches from the top and and sort of bounces.
I will roll all the way down. In fact it will go down to far, but I adjusted that with the stops. Is there any thing I can do to adjust the window? :flag
The last few teeth on the big gear are probably worn down, not missing. It only takes about a quarter of an inch wear to fail.
You may have to pull the thing all the way out to see (I did).
You can get a new stainless gear and replace. Bit of a PITA, but doable. I have done both of my windows. Figure on a 4 hour or so project, no special tools necessary other than a drill. A rivit gun comes in handy though.
They also sell a kit that allows you to bolt on a replacement gear to the existing gear, but I don't think I would use that personally.
Ain't no easy way to remove the window regulator. If it has never been removed before, you'll need to drill out the three rivets that hold the assembly to the door panel. (Of course, that's AFTER you've removed the window.)
If you don't have a book, ask some one on the Forum. I'm sure the procedure has been published here before. Good Luck.
Like he said, no easy way. Have to remove the door panels, run the window to the top, undo the rear section, tilt the window forward (if you are real careful, you can use a clamp to hold the window tilted up and not undo the front connection) drill out the rivets, unbolt the regulator, pay careful attention to what goes where, and work it out of the hole in the bottom of the door. This is a trick thing to do, almost like one of those maddening puzzles, but it will come out. You have to remember the twists and turn sequence so you can reverse it back in. Replace the gear, grease everything up real good, then reinstall. I know this is not totally step by step, but I am operating from about a year ago memory of this project.
Tip: Don't get your hand caught in there while operating the window...
