First I want to say thanks to fellow members that had helped with my questions eariler post. Now for the fun I just rebuilt the rear myself, and after doing it I would never pay the money some places charge. Its not too hard to do. I changed the gear ratio to 3:73 for a 71. Yes thats right 3:73 by US Gear, I found past post stating that these gears were available, so I did it. Pulling it apart was fairly easy. You have to have pullers, and seal drivers are a help. It took me about 4 hours total to do. oops rear was already out of car. replaced bearings and seals all the way around. Save your money do it your self. The only problem I ran into was pressing the pinnion bearing on. But the local shop did it for 20.00 bucks and shimed correctly for me. It's not in the car yet but I might have it in soon. I am debating on waiting till when I change the tranny out for a 2004R.. :D
Cool..hope the gears last along time for you. A shop here did mine for $250.
Cheers on another 200R4 swap. Let me know how it goes. Have had mine runnin for over a year now. Just recently got it dialed in perfect with a modified govenor and a shift kit. Im really lovin it now.
I just moved to your area (Yardley)
Congrats on the short(er) rear. If you need help with installation- let me know. BTW: Do you know a decent garage in our area to help me with my clutch?
Nice job Pat. I did the same thing a few months ago. The hardest part was crushing the new crush sleeve. I ended up using the press to do that. I used a Snap~On dial inch/lb torque wrench to set the pinion load. Did you set the pattern to the toe with the US gears? Did you use the US gears made for Tom's?
Gary
Yep I had no problem crushing the sleeve and I used the pattern off the US gear web site. the paint comes with the kit. Hey Stefan69 I use a place in morrisville for repairs called Dans auto he owns a vette and used to have an 67, its on the main drag half way between route 13 and the Callhoon Bridge. Give me a E mail maybe we can shoot the sssss it.
