Respectfully suggest you call your favorite cam company, tell 'em what ya got, and what ya want to do......You'll also get lots of good advice here too, but that sometimes only confuses the issue.......
The rpm range you like to drive is very important when choosing a cam. Don't buy one that requires you to run 4000-7000 rpm's if you only drive in the 2000-5000 rpm range most of the time. Of course matching the cam to your other componants goes without saying.
I also suggest going to Crane or CompCams web site, tell them what engine you have and they will suggest the best cam. I built my 454 rat motor last winter, and used a Crane powemax dual pattern hydraulic cam, number 296-2. I love the way it drives and the idle is awesome! The power band is 2800 to 6200, but its got plenty down low around 2000. I also went with Crane gold race roller rockers, makes a big difference. Good luck!
