How hard would it be to replace my speedometer? What would be the easiest way to get to it??
If i do this I also plan on buying a kit to replace all the other lights with red lights. i want to avoid taking out the whole dash again if at all possible. should this gauge fit well?? and how hard to wire it in prob??
Lots of people have installed aftermarket gauges in the factory dash, this digital will mount about the same and it's a bit of work to get aftermarket gauges to fit right, but do a forum search for like autometer gauges people make it happen all the time,
In the case of digital gauges they need a sender, some will wire into the cruise transducer but you would have to talk with the people who build this speedo to see what it takes,
With that all said if you want digital gauges try to find an old unloved kit, post in the for sale section here someone might even want to swap you to go back to stock in their car.
Are you doing just the speedometer? It isn't that terrible. With the original speedometer removed, you should be able to fish wires into the same spot for your aftermarket speedometer. Not sure how you're going to mount it, though. I opted to replace the entire face with a piece of painted plexiglass, but I replaced all of the gauges. I think doing just the one gauge would be harder, actually.
Here's a photo of what I did. The original allen head screws that hold the original panel on can be reused with your custom panel. It was fairly straight forward, the hard part is cutting your new panel to match which you can see on the bottom right that I didn't get quite right. As I mentioned, I think it'd be harder to put just the one custom gauge in there vs. the entire panel.
I used the original bulb leads for the LED lights.
