I go by what the OP stated, - fuel starvation
Note the the pump in question is a standard 2 port version. In '68 GM began installing 3 port pumps on some C3 Corvettes, depending on engine option. The third port is to provide for a bypass/return path to the tank. Although described by GM as a vapour line, it's largest benefit is allowing a greater volume of fuel to be pushed through the pump. This larger volume of fuel keeps the pump temperature down preventing vapours from forming in the first place.
In essence the pump is being 'liquid cooled' just like in the video. You'll note the owner of the video is talking about installing a bypass line to solve his problem.
