Default aluminum heads

Hay everyone I have been working on the vett and it was time to fire it up. I have aluminum heads and fired up good was setting timing and trying to put 20 min. On it of run time was watching temperature. Within 8 min. It got 250. I shut it down let it cool down found out it had air pocket in cooling system. Fit the problem I ran the car five 20 min. Heat cycles it ran at 190 no problems.
The question is did I do any damage to the head's. What is the temperature that has to get for damage to happen.

Usmc,

I think you'll be fine at 250. I had a sbc go to 260 when a fan belt spun off and once it cooled and change the belts it was fine. If there was a air pocket it ciuld have been reading steam temp vs water temp too

As long as you did not run it for any time above 250, you should be fine.

If yo blew the cap and really got it cooking under load. Then I would worry but the temp creeping up to 250 shouldn't be a problem.

other things are more an issue at that temp than the head castings. Aluminum is pretty stable for about another hundred degrees.

Spanky,

Does your head have a tell-tale disc on the side?

Have you re-torqued the heads and manifolds since these heat cycles ?
