I recently had to take the drivers side rear caliper off of car, ever since
I put it back on my brake pedal has been soft and spongy. Any thoughts on this? I was going to bleed the brakes but only as a last resort because I do not think simply removing a caliper could cause this.
when you removed the caliper you had to of let the pistons move outwards and then when you pushed them in to put it back over the rotor the in and out movement is enough to allow air in the caliper. Bleed them and your hard pedal will be back :)
I did the exact same thing when I got my car- bleeding the brakes fixed the spongy feeling. On your car, the order for bleeding should be:
LR(inner)
LR(outter)
RR(inner)
LR(outter)
LF
RF
and I believe that the bleeder screw needs a 3/16 rubber tube to fit over it properly. I forget what size wrench you'll need to get the bleeder screw loose.
Did you disconnect the caliper from the brake line? I'll assume not. But you did press the piston into the caliper. That displaced some fluid back into the reservoir (master cylinder). You should be able to get a hard pedal back by pumping thr brakes slowly a few times.
