when this part breaks it sounds like???
two days ago my car started boging down when i stoped and had it in drive, i opened the hood and noticed as it bogged down i could hear a clank come from the front of the engine. ( the fan area ) it is not on a regular bassis either, sometimes it makes the noise for two or three second some times only once. i know it's not the alternator, because i already changed it out today and it still does it. so my question is what does a water pump sound like when it is going out? or does a power sterring pump make any noise when it is going out? ( even if the wheels are straight).

If you can move the fans prop shaft on the water pump in/out or side to side it's shot. I would also look at the harmonic balancer to make certain that nothing is behind it or if there is any ring separation going on.
