my tranny pan gasket is leaking a little and i was thinking of replaceing the tranny pan while i change the gasket because the chrome tranny pan i found has a drain plug on it which the stock one doesn't have and it looks alot nicer. Are these pans decent or are they cheaply made?
I had the same problem, the original pan would not stop leaking. I put a Mr. Gasket chrome pan on. It has a drain plug and the pan seems to be just as good, if not better, build as the original. Now the dipstick is leaking :mad
1. Don't care too much for chrome. Probably because soooooo much of it is just cheap Pep Boys-style crap.
2. Why chrome something you can't see?
3. GM didn't put a drain plug in the tranny pans because it wants you to change the filter at the same time you change the fluid.
4. There are drain plug kits that can be retrofitted to a stock-type tranny pan. This may be the way to go if you're only using the drain plug to minimize the mess from a filter/fluid change.
I just bought an aluminum one, well sort of had to because the store was going out of business and they had $230 cdn deposit for a clutch that never arrived.
