Need help with float adjustment on my Holley. I read that it should be done with the car running. My problem is that as soon as I loosen the set screw it begins to spew gas out of the area around the adjustment screw and nut. I'm afraid to let it go for fear of fire. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
Re: Holley Carb Turners!!! (chadman)
I don't let the engine get too warm first of all then I put a rag between the carb and manifold then I just loosen the screw enough to move the nut. Good Luck
And I keep a couple of fire extinguishers handy :D
I asked the same question a while back. It is normal and you just have to use a rag or something and be very carful when adjusting it. I believe the engine must be fully warmed or else it will affect the float level.
You can minimize the spray by keeping the screw tight but just loose enough to adjust the float level. Of course if you are reducing the level you will have to continually loosen the screw. The engine doesn't have to be warm to do it. A fire extinguisher or a hose is a very good idea.
The nut is for adjusting the float level and the screw for the screw driver seals the leaks and locks the adjustment. Just slightly loosen the screw with a slotted screw driver and turn the nut . Turning it clockwise lowers the level and turning it counterclockwise raises it. You want the front just slight trickling out of the sight hole and the back slightly more aggressive of a spile. The rocking of the motor should splash the front fuel out.
Good luck. Hot or cold doesn't matter.
