Default Steering kit- Customer service

I ordered a Borgeson steering kit through mudflaps.com
I had a local shop put it in. Right now we are waiting for the correct power steering hoses to be shipped out. The ones that were delivered were for a mustang, and clearly I am on a corvette forum for a reason...
Borgeson ships them out directly. But I purchased through another vendor(mudflaps), so I began with calling the vendor.

First of all they don't actually answer the phone over there. The message I left on their answering machine was never returned. They actually answered the third day I called and that may have been pure luck. They told me they would look into it, get it taken care of and keep me in the loop. Never heard back. I have since called 3 more times to follow up but haven't gotten anything except an answering machine.
My understanding from them and Borgeson is that these ship direct from Borgeson. The subpar customer service I wish lied with just one party but it doesn't...I got an email today from mudflaps to call Gil at Borgeson to have the part exchanged, when previously they told me the correct part would just be sent out. I give Gil a call and he says I can return the incorrect mustang hoses they sent, and they'll send out the corvette ones(10 day total process). I asked what else is there in terms of options? This car is at a shop and time is sort of of the essence... He says we can bill your credit card and send them out, and refund your card when we get the others back. I mentioned you guys sent the wrong part out, should I really be covering the return shipping on this? He offers we can credit your credit card for shipping.
I mention that the car is at a shop, can we get this overnighted because the lady I spoke with at borgeson last week says its 5 days to ship things to California. He said they don't do that. I told him, "Look, I work in business and when you wrong someone, it doesn't matter if the shipping is $100, you need to make it right."
"In my business, when someone has an issue, even if its totally bogus, we send them a new product(s) and pay for speedy shipping just get things taken care of." (Sometimes even if this unit wipes out the profit for the next several items, overall you're making money and keeping customers. Ps keep in mind they dropped the ball, not me.)

He says "we don't do that." So bottom line, my car is going to be sitting at a local shop for 2 weeks for no good reason (1 week for these companies trying to figure out how to solve a pretty simple problem, and 1 week waiting for the correct hoses to arrive)
Im sure the owner of this shop is real happy with them also.
I have no doubt that this is a decent product. Ive read plenty of good reviews on the product, but customer service with both of these companies was poor. My point in posting this is to give a heads up; good product: yes, but be aware the customer service for both these companies is poor in my experience. Second of all hopefully someone from their companies comes on here once in a blue moon and realizes their customer service has issues, and corrects it. I did tell this guy Gil at borgeson that I would let others online know of the sort of service I was getting. He said that's fine.

Thanks for the heads up. I will think long and hard before pulling the trigger.

Thanks Dave, I got my Borgeson kit a couple weeks back and am currently installing. I got it through Corvette Central. I hope all goes well but if not I too will inform all potential future purchasers. We Corvette Geeks will stand together demanding integrity from our suppliers.

My Borgeson box is 4 years old now with 25K miles on it. Chey should have used this type of box with the C3 series, but thats another topic.
I love how the car handles with the Borgeson box and the help I got from them during my install.
I would think a shop doing the install could go to any Auto Parts store or Hydraulic hose store and get hoses as they are not special except for length.
I can agree with Borgeson's policy, they will exchange or ship and bill.
Also I feel your pain because I am in the middle of an upgrade to a serpentine belt system from March. After misalignment problems and 3 belts winter came and I am stuck till mid April.

just my 2 cents, Mike

I've been eying the Borgeson steering upgrade for a while now. I WAS going to purchase mine from Mudflaps also. The price is about $100 cheaper than Jeg's or Summit. Well I have had excellent customer service from these two companies so I guess I'll be ordering from one of them. I think they will price match also.

I'm sorry to hear of your ordeal dave1234. Thanks for informing us of this cluster $@#* of customer service. Now others can take a different route.
