Default Steering conversion

Just a general question. I have done the jeep box conversion on my 81. Its been mothballed for some time and Im thinking about getting back to playing with it. I started it the other day and let it warm up ( hasnt been started in over a year). I had the hood up and was sitting in it rolling the steering some to cycle the fluid in the steering. I noticed frame movement by the way of the engine. When I would hit the stops the engine would move down or up some, nothing major just a noticable flex. Is this normal or should I be looking at a solution to this?

really cannt think of a reason why the engine would move up and down while turning the wheel unless something is wrong perhaps with the center link of the steering hitting the oil pan.

I have since looked at it again. It seems the spindles are hitting their stops before the box hits its locking point. It is doing it at full left lock and full right lock so the box being off center wouldnt be the cause. I do seem to have a geometry problem possibly from the pitman being to long? What pittman is supposed to be used? If I remember reading right that a 70 chevelle pittman was used and thats whats on it now. With the spindles hiting their locks the box is torqing the frame some.

If you do a search of recent Borgeson threads, there is a discussion of frame flex from the Borgeson box, which is a commercially adapted jeep box. The consensus seemed to be that this flex was a result of the integral power of the jeep/Borgeson box putting stress on the frame where it was only designed for the force of a manual box with the power ram further downstream.

There were (as always) a wide range of opinions, with most agreeing that it was not dangerous, especially when the car was in motion and the forces attenuated by the forward motion.

It hasn't made me consider removing my Borgeson box and it certainly hasn't kept me awake nights!

By looking at it I really see no way to strengthen this area. Owell it is what it is I guess.
