Damn! another crack, about 4 inces long, down the side of the left fender.
I guess I'll settle for Maaco paint jobs. ain't no way I'm spending 3K+ just to crack the paint in 60 days
Aaaarghh. Don't go to Maaco. Burn the car first. If you are seeing cracks about 2 or so inches down from the tops of the fenders running fore and aft then the last guy went to Maaco. This is the place when the bonding strip attaches to the fender....in other words the glue joint. Your paint is cracking here because the last guy did not strip the paint down to the fiberglass, grind out and replace the red body adhesive used at the factory and refill the joint. Unless you strip the car before you paint it you will get these cracks guaranteed. You might getawaywith stripping just the joints and sanding the rest down to primer, but the old glue and any Bondo will hold solvent which will come back up through your paint. That is why it costs $6000 to paint a Vette. You have to strip it to the glass, block it out and come back out with new primer. Try it. It is not hard, but you will ask $7000 for the next guy.
I know the feeling. Just had three cracks fixed. Noticed them after new 383 was put in. I guess they happen because the new engine is much stronger and the cam hits hard and the vibrates more than old engine. I had one crack at pass. head light and two at pass. front fender. It cost $100.00 a crack at local body shop.
