im in the process of changing my intakes, and I'm trying to drain the coolant from the block. where are the drain plugs? are they the bolts that need a allen wrench on each side located near the front, or the two bolts located on the back of the engine? both are hard to get undone, so i thought i would find out which to work on. thanks....
Heres' my trick and I'm sure others have done this as well. Pull your thermostat and bolt the housing back down. Pull your upper radiator hose at the radiator. Grab your shop vac and put the nozzle in the upper radiator hose and hose clamp it tight and then turn on the shop vac. Then simply just vacuum till you think you lowered the level enough to pull the intake without any antifreeze spill. I tried this on mine and it worked like a champ.
you should only have to drain the radiator a little bit. then wipe up the excess fluid in the lifter valley.
Watch the level in the radiator, drain down to where it is about level with the water pump. Once you drain it, let it sit for a little while, water level will rise as water moves from engine to radiator through the lower radiator hose. You may have to drain a little more when this happens.
