Default 82 u-joint strap bolts!!!

Has anyone found a better type or style of bolt to use with the u-joint straps in place of the E10 type bolt used in probably 80-82's?
If I strip another head Lucky I have some replacements, but they are a real PIA to work with......may have to get the dremel out to cut the last 2 off

I swapped over to hex heads. Just take a bolt in with you and match it up.

I guess I don't know what a E 10 Bolt is. I understand that some of the 80-82's used Torx Heads and some used 12 points, some may of come with 6 Points. Socket Head grade 10 are the standard replacements, your local Bolts store will have them. When Van Steel sells there HD Caps they come with them. Your 82 should have 5/16" Bolts.

Most parts stores sell the u-joint strap kits and they inlcude new bolts.

I've never seen an '80-82 that had Torx bolts, only 12 point bolts on all that I've had.

Mine definitely had the external Torx bolts. Close to a 12 point but not quite. Unless you have an E10 socket they strip really easy, even with the socket you have to be very careful.

Even with the E10 socket, they still strip easy, ask me how I know???
This is what I found as a replacement.......
Company is FASTENAL, don't know if it is a national company (apparently they are) or just local, as there is one close to me. All they sell are nuts, bolts, etc.etc...

They matched up with the following.....5/16-24 x 3/4 Socket Head Cap Screw. And it is a perfect replacement and size, will know hopefully this weekend...A T40 socket seems to fit and also an Allen wrench, but not taking any chances, going to find the correct socket before installation, that is for sure.....at least I will have some leverage as opposed to the stock bolts......
Part # 2123818 Black Oxide Finish....5 to a bag.......
