Default Rocker Arm Pivot Replacement

I'm rebuilding the '73 factory engine to original specs (190 hp) and in doing so, noticed wear on these parts. Three are unblemished, six have some light wear lines, and the rest have some pretty deep gouges on them.

Question is; How much wear makes it necessary to replace these guys?

TIA.
Steve

I can not tell you how much but my '77 had the same wear. I found a NOS set of Sealed Power rocker arms that had the ***** included. Good luck with it. mike...

I think u can get replacements that have deep groves for added lubrication. Wear on the pivot ***** indicates a problem in the vlv train. Inadequate lubrication, overstress from high spring press, overspeed (>6,000rpm), cam lift > 0.5". U may want to review your vlv train set up again.

I think comp cams sells them separately. Make sure u buy the ones with as deep grooves as u can get.

You can get them from any parts store from Sealed Power. Ck rocker arms closely for wear also. Wear of those two parts goes hand in hand.

Stock arms range from 1.35 to 1 to 1.45 to 1 ratio. Quality control and maintaining exact ratios just wasn't a priority and wear factors in as well. Modern production methods produce a much better product. Replace them. If you don't want to go roller use Comp or Crane to get true 1.5 ratio's. Check pushrods while it is apart. Blow through them, roll them on a real flat surface to check for straight and check the ends for excessive wear. The nuts are self locking. once they are off and on a few times that feature is lost.
