Default 1982 radiator core support

Does anyone know what the difference is between the '82 style and, say an ealrier 78-80? I saw a pic of one and it looks like the center part of the support has a dip of some kind in it? I am going to be doing a TPI swap and I need to replace the core support in my '78 due to rust, so my thought was Maybe to bring an air filter connection over the top and in front of the radiator? Didn't realize there was a difference until I saw this. Thanks.

The air intake goes over the front of the support on 82.

The '82 support does have a dip to facilitate air going into the duct built into the underside of the hood, and it's useful if you want to get air into your engine over the support. There's little enough opportunity to get cold air into the engine on these cars, especially if you build a cold air intake.

Thanks for the input. I had never seen an actual '82 support before I had asked the question. I got it and it does indeed have a dip. Never realized that it was set up like that. So down the road I have a little more room to take it over the top. Thanks.
