You should have at least 1" of freeplay at the pedal. If there is less, you need to loosen the nuts on the pushrod at the Z bar and adjust so there is. Move the Z bar up the pushrod to increase the freeplay.
I just did the clutch kit when I did my motor last Spring 2014 and I put it a RAM HDX Street/Strip clutch kit with 30-60% more clamping force. The clutch begins to engage right off the floor and is fully engaged about 50% up from the floor with the clutch pedal. Not sure how to correct your application but shared my recent experience with another aftermarket clutch kit for comparison.
