I have trailing arms temp installed with the bolts, the smart struts are bolted to the differential, and the leaf springs are bolted to the rear end also. So far all the connections to the t-arms are hanging.
I'm working with frame only, the body is off and the only components installed in the frame are these rear suspension pieces.
My question is....is there a best practice for connecting everything up? How about initial settings? I'm concerned that with basically no weight on the frame, something might be damaged when its completely back together and the full weight is on the wheels.
You can't really hurt anything back there. Just leave everything snug. When the weight is back on then you can go back and do some initial adjusting of teh camber and toe adjustments if needed. Take it to an alignment shop as soon as possible before driving to far or at speed. If it is out they can be squirrely.
Don't try to torque down the 4 bolts that hold the rear spring to the differential cover until you have the body on the car. If you try to torque them down without full weight on the spring you could snap one or more ears off the differential cover where the bolts go through.
