I have a 1980 corvette and last week the right rear brake light/turnsignal stopped working. With the license plate light. So I got to work.
1- checked the bulb. All good
2- spliced power cable from socket to other power cable that goes to left brake lite. Hit the brakes and they both light up.
3- checked ground and it looked good.
Now I'm stuck . What do you suggest I check next. Thanks
You may have a bad connection in the turn signal switch. You may also have a broken wire between the turn signal switch and the rear socket. You are going to have to measure voltage from the light forward and find where you are losing it.
I'm not sure what you mean by "With the license plate light". Do you mean the plate light also went out? If so, you must have two issues, they don't connect except for ground. I'd run a jumper from the ground on the right brake light to a known good ground and see if it works. The license plate light runs on the same voltage as your tail lights and is separate from the brake light voltage line.

The bulb is good or not?
The light sockets can corrode inside and cause intermittent or permanent loss of ground.
Connect a wire to a good ground and test the socket as shown in the picture.
