Default carburetor flooding

Hi,
recently I have been having some carb flooding issues with my car it is a 73 l-82 manual shift, at ldle it would flood and shut down so i removed the carb cleaned it and replaced the needle and seat, no luck so l removed the air cleaner and watched it run and when I brought the rpms up to about 1500 for about 20 seconds fuel would start to flow out the top of the eccelerator pump and the car would start to sputter and shut off and would not start until I let sit for awhile. Any suggestions on what would cause this?
Thanks,John

Sunk float. It's also possible your fuel pressure is blowing the needle off the seat but the way you write the problem, all has been good and this is just something recently occurring without provocation.

Hi gerry72, l checked the float for a possible hole or fuel in it and found nothing, could a float go bad and sink anyway? It has the original style float not metal.

Quite common for Quadrajet floats to become fuel saturated. None escape time. A new float is cheap and should be part of a carb rebuild.

Of course it could also be fuel boiling in the carb. Search the archives for flooding or percolation.

Update: I replaced the float and set it at .375, The car started real easy and i put on about 25 miles with no issues. Removed air cleaner and watched it run at different rpms with no leaking or flooding, I think/hope I solved the problem. Just for a experiment I put the old float in a container of fuel and after about two minutes all that was sticking out of the fuel was a small tip of the top corner!
Thanks guy's for your advice
