Default Window Regulator Position

I have a 1979 Corvette that I have replaced the window regulator on the passenger side door. Is the position of the regulator gear/teeth relevant to the motor gear/teeth important? If so, at what point should the two meet?

Thanks.

Not important, you can bolt up the motor with the regulator up or down, just somewhere in the normal operating range. The new regulator should have arrived with a bolt and nut through the arms, leave it in place till the motor is bolted on or the spring will take over and your fingers may get damaged.

Thanks. Makes life easier.

Also trying to figure out how the rear window roller (the square backed one) mounts to the window or if it does at all?

The square end goes in the horizontal rail on the window and the round end goes in the rear vertical rail.

Thanks a bunch for the help! Made my life much easier this weekend.

Now that I know how to do this, if I ever have to again - I know it's really not as hard as I once thought.

Takes a bit of finesse and patience.

Just an FYI if others are interested. I found that the removal of the regulator from the arm assemble requires a lot more work and specialized tools (rivets and all) than I expected. I ended up cutting my new regulator gear down and welding it to the old one (after grinding the teeth off of it).

Worked like a charm. I see there are rebuild kits like this now (that I did not see when I bought my kit) that allow for a bolt on replacement.

In the end it worked really well, the window functions flawlessly now and I've got fresh grease and a smooth operation!

Thanks again!
