Default Does anyone have a Spectre Plenum Air Intake Kit?

With my crate engine install about 95% complete, I have been contemplating a cold air intake for my car. I would love any suggestions/comments on what some C3 users have that is a "non-standard" air intake system. I am wondering if there would be any performance gains by doing this over a normal K&N filter atop the carb.

Any pictures would be great!

No that is just a stock photo from their website. But, the air cleaner that i have is 5" high so as long as the part that fits over the carb is not higher than that it should work. I do know in my current setup i cant go to the side but i can go forward.

you currently have a 5" high filter but is the base a drop down base?

I put 5" but it is really a 3" Element. It isnt the drop down type either. Sorry wasnt thinking. For arguement sakes, let's say there isnt a clearance issue. Do you think it would be worth it?

I am looking at one like this....

Here's what i came up with.

I've noticed that I can really ramp up my timing without having to worry about detonation in the summer which makes for more power, on top of the benefits of cold air. Runs a little rough though in winter because i think the air is almost too cold (retune would solve these problems I'm guessing). Even if there isn't a large pressure difference from the cowl area the fact that the air is cold was enough incentive to built the CIA for me.

I got the plenum off ebay used Part # 9859. I also used 2 4" x 4" pipes and two 4" 45 degree turn pipes. on the ends are things called stacks also made by spectre. The filters are k&N 4" by 6" cones that I had to shave down the rubber on to make them fit snug in the tube (they also rest against a turn in the pipe so they aint going anywhere). To fasten everthing together I went to lowes and got hose that lays flat about 3 inches in width and just used fasteners to bind everything (do not buy the spectre fasteners b/c they wont work. In order to get this to fit the metal b/w connections will not be flush and you need a way to have a little extra give). I didn't have to move anything in the engine compartment except for the hood release wire that is now resting above the tubes. Also I ground down the top of the plenum right where the wing nut goes just to make sure I had enough clearance (its close, but if you use a flat wing nut shouldn't be a problem). Had to cut holes in the fiberglass which wasn't hard. Ended up using a metal grinder and jigsaw. Cost about $220 and took about 4 hours. Not a bad job at all. Been in there for 2 years with no problems and I've been through some downpours. The intake sits about 2 inchs above the bottom of the cowl area and comes about 1/2 from the windshield wiper mechanism. Hope this helps!

Where would this be getting cold air from? I have an open element on my car and my IAT has seen air as hot as 140*, I cant see enough cold air gettign to those filters to keep the hot air away.
