Default Identifying my 77?

New to the forum guys. I just recently bought a 77 corvette. Flat back glass and 3 spoke wheel. I looked underneath and it has the 1 piece fiberglass suspension spring in the front and back. It also seems to have power steering. I was under the assumption that the 77's had none of this? Is that true or did this guy before me do a lot of work to get it nice? Or did he drop a 77 body on a 78 or 80? I'm confused.

77 has steel springs front and rear from the factory. Also came with a 3 spoke steering wheel if it had tilt and tele column.

I have the 3 spoke wheel and it tilts but i don't know how to telescope it in and out. This one has the one piece springs.

There is a ring just under the horn button that twists to release the telescoping part.

Stock front springs were coils, one on each side. Power steering was stock. Also available was cruise control that year.

The fiberglass springs are not stock. Swapping from steel to fiberglass in the rear is a somewhat common alteration, but the monoleaf up front is much, much less common. It sounds like someone had a plan for that car before you got hold of it.

We can help more if you can post a few pictures.

Seems you may have the " Performance Plus " package from Vette Brake Products. I Installed one on on my car a few years ago. Really great upgrade and not cheap either around $2,800 that's just for the parts.
Check out my pictures I may have a picture of mine.

Just checked my pictures and I do have pictures my suspension, see if I looks like yours.

Many performance cars after 35 years or so, have modifications. Yours sounds like the previous owner/owners made some changes to suit what they wanted. Most 77s have power steering, do you mean a change to rack & pinion? There are a number of different modification/upgrades that can be added to C3s. I would also make a wild guess that the engine has been changed or modified as late 70's C3s are way low in power. The way I look at it, the late 70's cars are perfect for making/building the car YOU want.

Dang! That's nice then! I was hoping for that but just thought maybe I had high hopes. I think they need to be adjusted or something. The front is sitting too low and I haven't had much time to do anything with it. I'm dropping a new engine in it now as the original is locked up.

Little off subject, but the OP may want to know too. What differences/benefits in handling does the single spring up front give you?

The VBP suspension updates your Vette to around a 2010 ride. Both of my springs are adjustable for ride height and stiffness. I can adjust my ride from harsh to soft in 10 minutes. Example: If you are going to a salon race you can drive your car there under normal suspension , when you arrive at the track you can adjust your suspension , race and then readjust back to street for the ride home.
Plus it handles " GREAT " it begs you put your foot on the gas pedal when going around a corner. I tend to like a really stiff ride always.

Hmm I like the sound of that. When people ask I always say that the C3 is fast (some) in a straight line but not a cornering machine. Would be nice to change that.
Unfortunately I (errr.. my wife) also own a 95 Miata. So I compare all cornering performance to that standard. None so far come close to it. Not a fast car but a cornering animal. I put 17" high performance wheels and tires on it and it's a go cart with so much traction I can hardly get the rear to come around even when I want to.

Correct for T/T steering column.

Aftermarket.

It should. Power steering was standard equipment for 77.

Time to do your homework. Order a copy.

Order a reproduction owner's manual if you don't have an original.

Go here http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...x.php?cmd=area and see if you can order a copy of theoriginal dealer invoice for your car.

Congrats on the 77.

Alright thanks guys! I think I might have to get the suspension looked at. The front right control arm is broken and barely hanging on. I'll try to get pictures and get another thread on here. I'm working on the engine swap right now, as the original is locked up.
