Starter/ignition system wiring
So I went and picked up an 81 corvette that had sat for 2 years. It was mouse ridden and had what looked like some shady backyard electrician wiring strew about. The car was dead so I proceeded to jump it ( before it sat the car did. As soon as I touched the jumpers to the battery the car began so smoke which I have diagnosed as a blown fusable link coming off the starter solenoid. Now I am in the process of tracing that wire to find out what Might have caused the link to blow. Trouble now is the wire appears to run into the fire wall and I'm having trouble tracing it after that. Before I tear my dash apart I would like to know if there is definitely a short or if a mouse may have chewed the fusable link and the battery just finished the wire off. How do I test for a short at the link with a voltmeter so I can verify a short

The right side of the fuse box is live only with the key ON.
Go to the left side of the fuse box, which is live all the time, and pull one fuse at a time and if the short goes away check the rest of that circuit.
