I guess I'm the new guy.
I have a bit of a question about the 70 I'm working on. the balancer is toast someone beat it with a hammer during a past install and the rubber is badly cracked it is 8" by 1" 47/64. I have a dorman replacement that is 8" by 1" 5/16 The timing marks are the same, but the dorman is about three pounds lighter. It is internally balanced. I cant seem to locate one the same size as the original. My local chevy dealer is not any help. Any thoughts?
I had the same problem on my '70, I was told the one fitted was for a truck engine and the new one I bought was lighter. I fitted it and it works fine.
Thanks again, I'm gonna go with the one i have. Plus a couple pounds of doesn't hurt either.
The balancer on mine failed a few years ago. I used the GM ZZ4 balancer. It was an exact fit, I also checked the timing mark/tab and it was right on. (Used piston stop)
1970 LT-1 and L-46 use the same 8" balancer. http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet+Perf...60269/10001/-1
