So I have a canister in my car a few hoses are plugged by the previous owner I haver verified one hose to the fuel tank. Two hoses intersect and connect with the PCV those I understand. Now as for the other three. One goes directly to the carb what port? Another to the purge TVS and then to the carb. What is the purge TVS and where on the carb does that then connect to. And finally the a/cl what is that and where is that?
I installed a new evap canister and hoses back when I was refreshing the underhood vacuum systems.
Dr Rebuild has excellent quality kits that have the correct hoses and fittings. I ran the fresh hoses to the PCV and then the hose runs to the base of the carb (front) if I recall correctly. It either ensures that vapors coming from the carb after shut-down get collected and routed safely back to the fuel tank OR they get pulled into the carb next time you start-up.
It is one of the systems besides the PCV that I retained on my L48 hop-up. All others (A.I.R. pump, heat crossover, EGR, EFE, thermal actuators and thermal switches and associated hoses/fittings) got disabled/removed/bagged for posterity.
Yea I don't have that stock air filter housing or the stock can so I believe the carb doesn't have the right/ enough ports for all these hoses it's the edelbrock #1406
So now that I've figured out that my carb isn't compatible with the evap canister system I was wondering if it's possible I will pass emissions if I remove it? Also if I remove the canister I'm understanding the line from the fuel tank is the only vent from the tank so I cannot plug it...? Can I just leave that line open as a vent or will I be smelling gas and/or leaking gas
I just had a look at the 1406 installation manual. Only, the 1400 has a fuel bowl vent which can be connected to the bowl tube on the canister (2nd picture). If you dont have it, port manifold vac tube and bowl tube can safely be plugged (so I have read). This leaves you with fuel tank tube which connects to fuel tank, pcv tube which connects to a pcv valve on the valve cover which has two ports. The second port of this pcv valve connects to the pcv port on the carb. The only thing you now need is a timed port to the tvs switch on the water neck (1st picture) and from there on to the control vacuum tube on the canister. The only thing I don't know is if you can T a vacuum line to distributer between the carb and the TVS switch.
I would not delete the vapor canister and use a vented cap. If the car is stored in a garage you will smell fuel, definitely if you have fuel with ethanol.
Have you looked into the pre 78 canisters? They only have three ports. One to gas tank one to the open air as vent and one to the pcv valve to purge? The mounting bracket is different so you'll need to source that. Just google 1974 vapor canister and you'll see what I mean

Edit : If you run manifold vacuum for advance, you have all the ports you need to get it working
