My distributor cap needs to be replaced. I am wondering if anyone knows if there is a different model of cap for a 1970 LT1 with the breakerless ignition? The one that is on there now keeps coming loose and then the motor runs erratic, so I don't know if it is the right one.
Thanks
Pete

Pete,
The distributor caps were the same for all 1968-1972 Corvettes EXCEPT 1968-69 L-88s and 1969 ZL-1s regardless of the ignition system installed (standard single point or optional transistorized).
The generally accepted distributor cap for your 1970 LT-1 would be black and have "DELCO REMY - PATENT PENDING R" on the top, in a circular pattern between the spark plug towers and the coil tower. This cap hasn't been serviced for years and any that you find will be most likely be used. I've seen NOS caps (still sealed in their "pull string" box) sell for some rediculous prices... Like in the $500 range.
If originality isn't a priority, find yourself a high quality replacement with copper contacts and you'll have a more than adequate replacement.
I purchased an excellent condition used one from Dave at Carlisle last year for a very reasonable price. He's listed on the registry website - look in the for sale section. He might still have some. :) He also has NOS points in the old style foil packages and plugs and all sorts of other 1970 goodies. :yesnod:
