My 79 power antenna doesn't work so I bought one from Ecklers only to find out it was a generic power unit. Has anyone done one of these it has 2 wires and a ground and the original has 3 wires and is grounded to the frame. How do you wire this in?
According to my '79 schematics the power antenna motor is NOT grounded to the frame. The green wire leading to it is constant +12V power from the clock/lighter fuse--it has constant power so that it will retract all the way when the ignition is turned off. The other two wires (white and grey) are alternate grounds provided to the motor (via the up and down limit switches) by the antenna relay.
Provided all of the connections of the existing DPDT antenna relay are accessible you can fairly easily rewire to alternate positive and negative to the replacement antenna via the two wires.
Are you certain that your existing antenna is completely bad? The monofilament line connected to the innermost antenna section is known to break and is easily replaced.
No instructions came with it?
Don't try to use any of the wires that attached directly to your original antenna.
There's a relay under the center console all the way to the rear.
The yellow wire is the trigger, orange is constant hot.
I suppose you could chop up the harness at the relay and pick some wires(green, gray, or white) to splice to.
But why not do things right https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-antenna.html
